Fishing Trip Dates  4th Oct – 12th Oct,  2009

Where to start?  I want to write a testimonial to the trip of a lifetime, but how can you put in words the most astounding 9 days ever?

The people:

Ashif (Owner of the most magnificent ‘Golden Eagle’ and one of the nicest and most generous people I have met)

George (Possibly one of the best fishing guides on the planet  (a new mate!))

Tom (one of the most talented, accommodating and friendly skippers you could meet)

John (To call John a deckhand is no-where near enough to describing the genuine friendliness and the fishing aptitude from such a perpetually happy and helpful man)

First thing that set this trip apart from any others is the feeling that you are going fishing with a pile of mates.  This was not a charter, these were not employees. The genuine friendliness, caring and camaraderie that exists with this bunch of great blokes makes for a terrific time while feeling comfortable about everything at all times.

The boat itself is a magnificent fishing palace. The lodgings were superb, the facilities excellent and the feeds (special note of thanks to George) were terrific.

The fishing ……….   What can I say that hasn’t been said in all the other testimonials?

I read the other stories prior to the trip and I remember thinking how some people just can’t help but exaggerate!!   Hmmm was I wrong, in fact I would say that the others understated the fishing side of the trip.

From day 1 we were smashed by giant Wahoo, cleaned up by rampaging GTs, brought to our knees by unstoppable Dogtooth and constantly kept sweating by big tasty Yellowfin Tuna.  We caught big Maori Wrasse, magnificent Blue Marlin, spastic Mahi Mahi and some big nasty Barracuda.

George felt a little let down on occasions if we trolled for a few miles without a bite??? (George, we welcomed the rest).

One particular moment captured in my mind was the look on Pete’s face, when  George wacked on an 8kg Yellowfin Tuna as live bait and then told Pete to belt up and get ready……  You could see in Pete’s eyes and on his face the thought “this is gonna hurt”.

The destinations were amazing and were, for most of us a first in so many ways.  Beautiful reefs, incredible sand atolls, the friendliest villagers and sights that cannot be captured on a camera, you have to be there to believe them.

We were invited to a Sevu sevu ceremony and dinner afterwards with the last elected Prime Minister of Fiji,  Laisenia Qarase and his wonderful wife.  A true highlight for me personally.

I could write about this trip for pages and pages, such was the overwhelming and memorable time I enjoyed.         (Feel free to ask George for my contact number and I will tell you personally.)

Very big thanks also to my fellow fishing buddies, Pete, Darky and my new friend Youngy (Adam). You guys contributed to one of the best fishing trips anyone could ever experience...

Now.. Darky, what are the dates we are looking at for next year?????????

Thanks to all,       your new friend Chalky
